Py-ro-gra-phy
The art or technique of decorating wood or leather by burning a design on the surface with a heated metallic point.
Below are a few examples of some pyrography work from 2017 and on. I use a variety of wood types such as bamboo, buckeye, walnut, birch, and basswood, with my primary tool being the Razertip SS D-10 Burner. More of my process and updates on new work can be found on my Instagram!

“Chinese Water Deer”

Pyrography, watercolor, white acrylic paint
This piece was created for a nature-inspired show curated by another Columbus, Ohio illustrator at Blockfort Gallery. I wanted to focus on an endangered species and absolutely love Chinese Water Deer because of their unique, long canine teeth (which they grow instead of antlers!). Despite having these sharp teeth, they are herbivores that feed mainly on grasses, shoots, woody stems, and some aquatic plants.
